Annie was in foal to the wonderful stallion Cardi. Everyone was so excited for this baby! She gave birth to a colt at 1:30 in the afternoon on Monday, March 2nd, 2009. He became very ill and had to be hospitalized. Early Friday Morning, March 6th, 2009, I had to make the difficult decision to let him go. This has been a heartwrenching experience, but even though he was only here a short time, he touched a lot of people.
In regards to the name...Atreyu was the name of the young boy in the Neverending Story, who became a warrior in order to save Fantasia.
As difficult as this was, it is uplifting to know how many people care. My deepest grattitude to all of you special people who supported, hoped, and prayed (and still do) for me and this foal...It helped him to be strong and to fight. He is just not meant to be on this planet right now.
I would like to share a poem that my dad wrote in honor of Atreyu:

about ambition or learning to please
or taking a breath of a summer breeze.
An hour on green pastures under the sun

A nuzzle, a whinny, a suckle or two

Run brave Atreyu, your Fantasia awaits
the passage to heaven on her Warrior's gait.

** Annie is in foal to Cardi again for a 2010 full sibling to Atreyu. His/Her name will be AURYN, the amulet given to aid Atreyu on his quest. She is due in April and we are all crossing our fingers for a healthy mare and foal!
